Jo and Eddie both grew up in North Queensland, working on stations and competing in a few campdrafts Jo in Charters Towers, and myself around the Mackay and Townsville regions. We began our rodeo journey on the ABCRA circuit in North Queensland. Jo competed in steer undecorating, goat tying, and rodeo queen events, while I progressed from calves to steers, then onto bulls, bareback, and bronc riding after turning 18.
Over the years, our rodeo career took us across the world from New Zealand to Canada, throughout Australia on the pro rodeo circuit, and into the PRCA in the USA. I finished my final years competing in the PBR in the United States. Altogether, we’ve been fortunate to have a successful and rewarding rodeo career. Jo continues to compete full-time in the WPRA at PRCA rodeos, as well as in barrel racing jackpots across the USA, riding an Australian horse from a third-generation line of champion barrel horses.
Throughout my career, I developed a deep passion for buckles. They say you can only wear one at a time, but when your career is over, your gold buckles tell your story without saying a word they represent everything you’ve achieved in the sport.
Around 2000, I began learning the craft of buckle making, working alongside experienced silversmiths who had spent over 30 years in the trade. Ridetuff Buckles have now been established for 26 years.
Today, Jo and Eddie produce many of the rodeo and campdraft buckles across Australia. Most of our customers know us, trust us, and many have become lifelong friends. We work directly with every customer no agents or dealers because we understand that many people live in remote and rural areas and value clear communication, guidance, and a personal approach when designing their buckles. We do our very best to help bring each customer’s vision to life.
